www.DickProenneke.com - "Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. Dick filmed his adventures so he could show his relatives in the lower 48 states what life was like in Alaska, building his cabin, hunting for food and exploring the area. Bob Swerer has taken the best footage from Dick's films and he has created 3 videos about Dick, "Alone in the Wilderness", "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and "The Frozen North". You can purchase all of them in DVD or VHS format from the www.DickProenneke.com website.
There's a creepy abandoned building in Whittier, Alaska that use to be a U.S. military all-in-one facility back in the 1950's. It's formally known as The Buckner Building or "The City Under One Roof". While it's against the law to step foot in the building, my friend Nate and I took my HELLA-copter up to check it out instead. The wind gusts were up to 50 mph this day, so getting the footage we got was no easy task. FROM ABANDONED ISLANDS ; TO OLD SCHOOL MINES ; THESE ARE 10 STUNNING PLACES IN ALASKA Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5. King Island In 1778, James Cook became the first european to spot “King Island”, no kings live here however. It was at one point used by a small tribe of Inupiat, who hunted in the summer months, and spent their winters mostly dancing. They still tried to get their hunt on during the light hours, but for the most part, everyone gathered in the men’s communal house and danced. With the rise of Nome, the tribe’s economy was also supplemented by art sales, unfortunately by 1970 everyone from the tribe was forcefully re-allocated to mainland Alaska. The most surprising part of it all is the fact that as of 2010, some of the buildings WERE STILL STANDING ! T...

http://www.curvcosteelbuildings.com/prefab-steel-homes.php Mr. Olen Northern in Palmer, Alaska in Matanuska-Susitna borough wanted a maintenance free durable prefab house that he could erect himself that would withstand the heavy snow and wind conditions of Alaska. These requirements led him to purchase an arch metal building from Curvco Steel Buildings. Mr. Northern built the shell at his residential steel building house in only 3 days!! There has been as much as 3-4 feet of snow in a day and he especially likes the fact that he has not had to shovel it off. His Quonset house is extremely energy efficient and offers a clear wide open interior as it does not require any interior posts or beams. Abandoned in 1938 the Kennecott Mines are now a National Historic Landmark with it's abundance of historic buildings. The focus of this video is the massive 14-story Concentration Mill where copper ore was processed. You will also see other historic buildings such as the Power Plant, Ammonia Leaching Plant, General Managers Office, Refrigeration Plant, and East Bunkhouse across from the Hospital (just to name a few). National Creek runs between the ruins of the Hospital and Bunkhouse. The Wrangell Mountains stand 14,000 feet above the mining camp which is within the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Looking west from the Mill toward the Power House you can see large mounds of soil and rock which cover the ice. These mounds are deposits left by the Kennicott glacier.

Travel video about destination Denali National Park in Alaska. Denali National Park is located about six hundred and thirty miles from the southern coast of Alaska and is nine thousand six hundred square miles of original Sub-Arctic wilderness. The history of the region began millions of years ago when mighty tectonic plates collided. The force of the collision folded the granite and sedimentary rock together at a huge elevation which subsequently formed the highest mountain in North America, Mount Mckinley. The coniferous forests consist primarily of birch and fir and deciduous trees and shrubs cover the stone-based valleys. An amazing variety of bushes, herbs and flowers turn the landscape into an array of bright colour. On the thin humus above the permafrost soil there’s vegetation ...
