There's a creepy abandoned building in Whittier, Alaska that use to be a U.S. military all-in-one facility back in the 1950's. It's formally known as The Buckner Building or "The City Under One Roof". While it's against the law to step foot in the building, my friend Nate and I took my HELLA-copter up to check it out instead. The wind gusts were up to 50 mph this day, so getting the footage we got was no easy task. www.DickProenneke.com - "Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. Dick filmed his adventures so he could show his relatives in the lower 48 states what life was like in Alaska, building his cabin, hunting for food and exploring the area. Bob Swerer has taken the best footage from Dick's films and he has created 3 videos about Dick, "Alone in the Wilderness", "Alaska, Silence and Solitude" and "The Frozen North". You can purchase all of them in DVD or VHS format from the www.DickProenneke.com website.
http://www.curvcosteelbuildings.com/prefab-steel-homes.php Mr. Olen Northern in Palmer, Alaska in Matanuska-Susitna borough wanted a maintenance free durable prefab house that he could erect himself that would withstand the heavy snow and wind conditions of Alaska. These requirements led him to purchase an arch metal building from Curvco Steel Buildings. Mr. Northern built the shell at his residential steel building house in only 3 days!! There has been as much as 3-4 feet of snow in a day and he especially likes the fact that he has not had to shovel it off. His Quonset house is extremely energy efficient and offers a clear wide open interior as it does not require any interior posts or beams. Mr. Northern has been extremely satisfied with his prefab house kit and enjoys the beautiful ...

Top Questions answered if you scroll down this description! Well wow! I can honestly say I never ever ever expected this to get 1000 views, let alone 4 million, so thanks for watching! The cabin is two stories now and does have a proper slanted roof. We moved to town in 2014 to be closer to school and work, and have been too busy to finish the project. We're working on a video update, so if you are really that curious go ahead and subscribe :) I get a lot of questions about the rocks. The rocks were for holding the barbed wire down, which is hard to make out unless you are watching in 1080. The barbed wire acts as a bond between the layers. I also get a lot of questions along the lines of "why not use logs?!" The logs you see on the property are not suitable for cabin building, and bu...
This classic short film shows how to make an igloo using only snow and a knife. Two Inuit men in Canada’s Far North choose the site, cut and place snow blocks and create an entrance--a shelter completed in one-and-a-half hours. The commentary explains that the interior warmth and the wind outside cement the snow blocks firmly together. As the short winter day darkens, the two builders move their caribou sleeping robes and extra skins indoors, confident of spending a snug night in the midst of the Arctic cold!
Abandoned buildings from the 1964 earthquake along the Seward Highway and water wheel at Moose Pass. Bridge at Canyon creek and remains of GMC CCKW WWII truck. ** Would love to hear any and all feed back or stories anyone may have in regards to these old buildings from back in the day **

We decided to go see Whittier at the last minute, and it was one of our most memorable stops. The museum was awesome, and the place felt very different from everywhere else we went. But it was also dominated by its two major buildings, the derelict Buckner building and Begich Towers. Maybe the museum's displays of the 64 quake and the thought of a tsunami also creeped us out. The whole town felt like a haunted house. In the end we got a strange vibe and headed back out through the tunnel. It was a place we were both glad to have gone out of our way to see and also glad to have gotten out of. A strange and beautiful place.

Travel video about destination Denali National Park in Alaska. Denali National Park is located about six hundred and thirty miles from the southern coast of Alaska and is nine thousand six hundred square miles of original Sub-Arctic wilderness. The history of the region began millions of years ago when mighty tectonic plates collided. The force of the collision folded the granite and sedimentary rock together at a huge elevation which subsequently formed the highest mountain in North America, Mount Mckinley. The coniferous forests consist primarily of birch and fir and deciduous trees and shrubs cover the stone-based valleys. An amazing variety of bushes, herbs and flowers turn the landscape into an array of bright colour. On the thin humus above the permafrost soil there’s vegetation ...
